At UWC Thailand, our Early Years learners have a very special classmate: Bob, our resident sulcata tortoise! We wanted our wider community to get to know him a little better too.

For our Early Years students, Bob is more than a fun visitor—he provides a wonderful opportunity for hands-on learning. Preparing his food, taking responsibility for his care, observing him as he digs and explores the garden, and learning how to care for him safely gives our youngest inquirers a meaningful way to develop empathy, responsibility and curiosity about the natural world.

Learning doesn't only happen in a classroom, sometimes it happens on hands and knees in the grass, getting to know a gentle giant like Bob. 💚

Fiona represented UWC Thailand at the HSIS Conference, where students from different schools came together to explore global climate challenges from multiple angles. As part of the SDG 13: Climate Action track, she joined two UWC Mahindra (MUWCI) students and another delegate to debate diverse perspectives on climate issues and develop policy-oriented solutions — tackling real-world questions about how communities and governments can respond to the climate crisis.

Throughout the conference, Fiona took on a leadership role within her team, helping guide their overall direction and shape their arguments. Her team's work stood out: they received the Most Impactful Team Award for their contributions to the track. Fiona was also awarded a scholarship to attend the HPAIR Conference at Harvard in February — a reflection of the impact she made.
